social connection + date night idea

Human beings are inherently social creatures. As far back as we can trace, humans have traveled, hunted, and thrived in social groups and for good reason. Humans who were separated from their tribe often suffered severe consequences. Social groups provide us with an important part of our identity, and more than that, they teach us a set of skills that help us to live our lives. Feeling socially connected, especially in an increasingly isolated world, is more important than ever. The benefits of social connectedness shouldn’t be overlooked.

For many of us, times have been strange in the social connection department. I’m so grateful that I recently got to see my family after almost a year apart. Now that I am back, it’s easy to feel isolated between the walls of my tiny apartment. Particularly knowing that this is the status quo for who knows how long can be quite difficult to surrender to. For me, physically distanced bike rides with friends, midday walks to try to catch some sun between the clouds, sharing love through dropping off home-made foods and ferments, and the fact that yoga studios are open once again in my part of the world are so key to my feeling of connection!

How are YOU dealing? Are you still able to come up with creative ways to safely interact with your people? What makes you feel connected these days?

If you’re looking for a new twist on a pandemic-proof date night, I’ve got just the idea. Partner yoga date night!
